The Tragic Tale of Greed and Obsession

The Legacy of the Greystones

In the Third Incursion, after the reign of terror wrought by the Demon Gral Nar Vix and his hordes of beastmen and demon spawn was put down by what would become the Council of Nine during the First Incursion, and following the short lived Second Incursion, another wave of exploration and adventure was to begin anew in the Northern Marches.

Out along the coast, the reavers and buccaneers from the Confederation of the Gold Teeth continued to raid ships and stores all along the southern coasts and the Golden Isles, north  to the Coast of Tears and the Jagged Coast. And none better was Captain Mordechai Greystone.

Captain Mordechai Greystone was a reaver and pirate who had travelled near and far, plundering, pillaging, and even found enlightenment at the mysterious Eshenshara - Sacred Temple Island of the Eastern Sea Elves. But as his family grew as much as the price on his head, he knew it was time to move on. He wanted to be far from the coasts, his past, and his enemies. After sending his family away to Javelin Hill for a ‘pilgrimage’, he ran his final run, returned to the pirate city of Scuttle Reef, off -loaded his shares, waited til evening, and sailed away on a single masted skiff with his friend and trusted advisor Farduhl, leaving his pirating life behind. He sailed up the Placid River from the Coast of Tears and stopped at Javelin Hill, gathered his family and left to find their future. He travelled far to the west to find the fold between The Grim Mountains and the Deepen Woods.

What unfolded exactly is clouded in mystery and tragedy. What can be said is that The Captain ran a successful resource business that included mining ore, precious metals and gems, timber and lumber. And then it all fell apart. Some say by greed, some say by other more foul reasons. And the The Captain lay dead and buried with his crew.

But his family and its business operations were not. While in terrible grief they found a way forward so they continued on the foundation that Captain Mordechai Greystone had made them. And the Captain's namesake grandson, Mordechai Greystone, took the reigns of the Greystone Companies and drove it forward.

It was during his reign that destruction and tragedy levelled the works, the companies and the peoples of the Greystone empire leaving only death, destruction, and ruins scattered across the Deepen Woods and the end of a family.
