The Cartographers Guild

If asked, "The whole world is the domain of the Cartographers Guild".  Such is the confidence, bravado, and vanity of The Cartographers Guild.

Its toehold in the Marches began in Harbor Town on the Coast of Tears by southern imperial immigrants with a bought and paid for charter from The Imperial Cartographers Guild and Company. And in its founding The Cartographers Guild thought it was the only game in town when it came to mapping the Northern Marches. But because they had emigrated up the coast and not through Javelin Hill, they had no idea The Monthly Cartographer had beat them by decades, and already had many mapping resources of the Marches as well as numerous expeditions and mappers generating new info on the Marches monthly.

And so as the Guild triumphantly entered Javelin Hill from the Northern Gate with tales of maps to sell and information for a price, they were laughed at and disparaged for their imperial arrogance and pride. They soon came to clash with the Monthly and its cantankerous owner Tomas 'Black Thumb' Knobknee, who when pressured to sell or face dire consequences, chose to burn his entire collection of mapping, gazetteers, and journals on the Marches to the ground before letting his life's work fall into the hands of The Cartographers Guild. And while this act of defiance didn't let The Guild get its hands on his work, it also levelled the playing field and allowed the Guild to explode in its presence in Javelin Hill.

There are approximately a half dozen official Guild Houses in the Northern Marches, with some additional expedition houses and retreats scattered in some of the wilder parts. The Harbor Town location remains the Guild Headquarters, with the Javelin Hill location being focused on selling to adventurers. Other locations include a Guild House in a squat round tower near the Library of Exodian, and a research manor near the Library at Crux. A small House exists far to the west in Melad Crossings as well.

Despite its draconian methods and arrogant attitude, The Guild conducts its work, pays well and tries to knit the tapestry of the what the world looks like together. They are not the cheapest spot for adventurers, but often are the only one.
