The Javelin Hill Weekly Cartographer is the main source of information for the comings and goings on in Javelin Hill and the Northern Marches.
Sensational? Sure. Outlandish? Certainly. Political? Absolutely. The Cartographer, as it is known, is also a source for the daring do's and heroic journeys being undertaken in the Northern Marches. An indispensable source of rumors, braggery, fingerpointedness, and know-it-allism, the Cartographer is a weekly journal that most adventurers subscribe to religiously.
The Weekly Cartographer was started as the Monthly Cartographer early in the days of Javelin Hill. It was actually a Cartography shop selling updated maps and gazeteers. Gathered from the bars and brothels and council chambers of Javelin Hill, The Monthly Cartographer was a must stop for anyone venturing out into the wilds. The Cartographer was even known to pay for real mapping and cartography work, and even sponsored some expeditions to fill in the gaps of their mapping of the Northern Marches. Julian Costello made a name for himself and his band of fighter/mappers taking assignments for the Monthly Cartographer. the Julian Series of maps have been studied endlessly by explorers wanting unlock the mysteries of what is and what is not on the series of maps.
Once the Cartographers Guild moved in to the outskirts of Harbor Town on the northeastern coast of The Sea of Tears, The Monthly Cartographer was pressured into joining or going into another line of business. In a defiant act, performed only as a Halfling from Knob Town could, Tomas 'Black Thumb' Knobknee burned his entire shop to the ground, to prevent the Guild from obtaining 50 years of mapping and cartography for the pittance it was offering. The very next week, Black Thumb was back in business, this time with the Javelin Hill Weekly Cartographer.
Since he and his entire staff of Knob Town Halflings were so good at talking and coaxing mapping and cartography from adventurers, Black Thumb knew they could start a weekly journal that the Cartographers Guild couldn't touch. And so he did. Now he was not just jotting down a map or drawing and illustration, he and his crew were telling stories, and commenting on the running of town, and gossiping. And occasionally, helping. He was making more money now than ever before.
Tomas Black Thumb Knobknee died in his sleep, as one of the most beloved, and respected citizens of Javelin Hill. His career in cartography, map making, defiance to the cartography guild, and as a journalist means he will never be forgotten as a key pioneer of the Northern Marches.
The Javelin Hill Weekly Cartographer still operates today, still run by the direct decendants of Black Thumb himself. The staff remains only Knob Town Halflings. The Cartographer is currently run by twin brother and sister who are the great great grand children of Black thumb.

Thanks for all your effort KB, I am beginning to realize how huge this world is. So much to see, so little time. I met Harry the Halfling tonight and hopefully have found a great resource for future research. We shall see.
