What can be said about one of the most delightful and
enchanting places that hasn’t already been said? Where else could you find such
beautiful people paired with such beautiful food? And as much as we all love
the gleaming citadel of light that is Javelin Hill, there’s no place like
Knobtown!
Founded by Duffy Shagfoot Knob during the First Incursion,
Knobtown has been the home for the halflings of Northern Marches for centuries.
Known as The Meadow prior to the Daemonwar, it was renamed for Duffy Shagfoot
Knob after he perished defending the fledgling town with the original Fifteen.
In the center of town, next to the landing at the Cattail River a statue of
Duffy stands tall and proud as the founder and defender of Knobtown.
Because of Duffy’s actions and the serendipitous convergence
of the Fifteen and their warbands at The Meadow before the fateful Battle of
the Two Weeks, The Meadow was mostly saved intact. And when the Daemonhorde was
defeated and The Dread Demon was sent back to his hell at the Last Defense of
Javelin Hill, and Javelin Hill lay in ruins, Knobtown (as it was renamed in
Duffy’s honor) was ready, willing, and able to supply goods and supplies as
well as skilled craftsmen to the rebuilding effort.
As a result of this good fortune, many families in Knobtown
became very successful during the rebuilding of Javelin Hill, as well as becoming
embedded in the daily life of Javelin Hill. And so, the two have been linked
since the beginning of the Second Incursion.
Knobtown is a sprawling town built into the rolling hills
and mounds along the Cattail River before it pours into the Placid River.
Located east and north of Javelin Hill, most travellers take the Imperial Way
north out of Javelin Hill and turn east on the River Road, following it to Greymantle’s
Crossing and heading north along the Cattail River to Knobtown.
The hills and mounds that encompass the town are on both
sides of the river. The Town Center lies on the eastern bank. Surrounding the Town
Center are the multitude of shops, bakeries, confectionaries, butchers, fish
mongers, cheese shops, breweries, distilleries, craftsmen, jewelers,
apothecaries, scribes, herbalists, and tradesmen. Many of the halfling homes
are embedded into the sides of the hills that surround the town. Also in the
Town Center are various Restaurants and Inns, a few are even made for the ‘Tall
Ones’ (humans and elves) who frequent and trade with Knobtown. Hidden in corner
of Tallway is also an Inn known for dancing by the barmaids. A town known for its
delectable foods and brews, Knobtown never disappoints if you are hungry or
thirsty.
Knobtown boasts its famous Rangers, the protectors of
Knobtown, founded by Duffy Shagfoot Knob during the defense of The Meadow. It has
a core of potent masters of the magical and healing arts as well as the almost
famous Order of the Cattail Knights.
Come see Knobtown. Spend some coin. Have some fun.
